The iron bridge across the Ara-Sone canal in Bihar was dismantled over three days in April after being out of use for over a decade.

The gang wore government uniforms to avoid suspicion while working in broad daylight, using cutting torches and excavators to tear it apart.

The village of Amiyavar was unaware of the theft, according to the media outlet.

The media outlet reported that some villagers were happy that the bridge was being removed.

On April 5, a man from a nearby village called the irrigation department to report a crime. Kumar asked why procedures weren't being followed when the bridge was removed.

Government workers and a local politician were arrested.

According to The Times of India, a sub-divisional officer and a part-time employee of the irrigation department were arrested for faking official approval for work.
