Watch your back.

I was on the Ryan Tannehill hype train. I still believed that Tannehill was the key to Tennessee's success, but I saw a lot of people saying that. He didn't do anything to prove he wasn't able to contend in the AFC. He defeated Lamar Jackson and Tom Brady in the playoffs one year prior, and his numbers as Tennessee's starter were unbelievably good. In the year 2022, my tone has changed.

I don't blame fans for thinking that the offense is limited with Tannehill under center. I started to wonder if the team would be better off making a trade for Rodgers or Wilson because Tannehill was not good last year. I was not the only one thinking that. There were rumors that the Titans were in the quarterback market. Jon Robinson made it clear that Tannehill was still their guy.

I was skeptical as a stout Tannehill defender. When a GM or head coach has to publicly state that their guy is our guy, it's usually not the case at the same time the next year. Kliff Kingsbury made a famous statement, "Josh Rosen is our guy", while all the Kyler Murray rumors were floating around. Robinson has a history of this, so wouldn't you know it, that was not the case? He told reporters that Marcus Mariota was the one who was replaced midway through their game against Denver in Week 6. The same statement is being made about Tannehill.

To make Tannehill's future even murkier, theTitans have quietly shown up to every big-name quarterback. Is there a person like Malik Willis?

What about Matt Corral?

What about Kenny Pickett?

Is it Desmond Ridder?

What about Sam Howell?

All. Of. Them.

They weren't just sending anyone. They sent Todd Downing, who might be a bigger reason why Tannehill wasn't good last year, but that's beside the point. The quarterbacks coach was sent by them. They sent the head coach. They are sending important people to check out the quarterbacks. That isn't a team that is content with their current situation.

The third-lowest odds of any position are listed by the people who have posted their mock drafts, but the odds of the TennesseeTitans taking a quarterback in the first round are still listed at 15-to-1. I find those odds low given everything I have said. Each of the big-name quarterbacks will likely be taken by the third round, because the TennesseeTitans don't have a second-round selection.

I think Tannehill will be the starter Week 1 next season. I expect his leash to be very short, especially if Tennessee drafts a quarterback in the first round, and with each passing day, that seems like a possibility.
