Spencer Rattler Says Oklahoma Was a 'Toxic Situation' Before South Carolina Transfer

Four months after transferring from Oklahoma to South Carolina, quarterback Spencer Rattler has opened up about his departure from the Sooners.

Rattler called Oklahoma a toxic situation and said he was happy to get somewhere new.

He said that wherever was going to be better, he found the right place.

Rattler did not discuss what made the situation at Oklahoma toxic.

He said that it would be a story later. I can tell you that we were perfect at the time I was benched. We won a championship the year before and were going to win another. I could go on and on.

Expectations have been high for Rattler since he was a student at a high school. He was the top-ranked pro-style quarterback in the recruiting class of 2019.

Rattler took over as Oklahoma's starting quarterback in 2020. In 11 games, the Arizona native threw for 3,031 yards and 28 touchdown. He had four touchdown passes in a 55-20 win over Florida in the Cotton Bowl.

Rattler was the preseason favorite to win the Heisman Trophy and was the favorite going into 2021.

Rattler was benched in the first half of the Texas game after throwing four touchdown and three interceptions in three games.

Rattler committed to South Carolina on December 13 after entering the transfer portal in November. He is projected to be the starting quarterback in the year 2022.

South Carolina defeated North Carolina in the Duke's Mayo Bowl last season.
