The drama will go beyond the rookies in the draft. Any number of trade offers will be considered by teams throughout the night of April 28.
Most trade conversations will focus on the draft picks. A few of the team's choices to move up and grab a specific prospect are packages.
The subject of other discussions will include current NFL players. The possibility of a big-name player getting dealt on draft day still deserves consideration, even though these trades tend to happen in the week leading up to the event.
The list is subjective, but factors in the latest rumors, along with each team's current needs and draft capital.
It is a perfect match on paper.
The Packers don't have a top receiver after sending Davante Adams to the Raiders. They could use any of the four top-64 picks to land an established receiver if they chose to.
The Seattle Seahawks seem to be moving away from their run-first style. Wilson is a member of the Broncos. Tyler Lockett has a big-money contract, so it's hard to believe Seattle wants to pony up for the extension of DK Metcalf. Why are there two high-end receivers and no franchise quarterback?
If the Packers are open to extension talks, they need both the draft capital and Metcalf to make it happen.
The New Orleans Saints made some of their rivals think a little harder about the initial round of the draft after they traded with the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are one of those teams.
It is unlikely that Trubisky will be the long-term replacement for Ben Roethlisberger. It is more likely that the Steelers will use Trubisky or Mason Rudolph as a stop-gap option.
The 16th and 19th overall picks are in New Orleans. It feels inevitable now that the Saints plan to draft a signal-caller.
The Minnesota Vikings and Houston Texans are both in the 13th spot and Pittsburgh should be able to swing a deal with either of them.
The New York Jets have two of the top 10 picks. If they trade back from either the fourth or 10th overall choices, they will be able to draft an elite prospect and acquire a few more selections.
Don't forget about Round 2.
The Jets have the 35th and 38th picks thanks to last year's Sam Darnold trade. They are in a good position to change the opening night portion.
New York could package that pick with either No. 35 or 38, since it didn't have one at the beginning of the draft.
The Kansas City Chiefs have already been busy this off-season, and they might be about to make another big move.
The San Francisco 49ers received the 29th pick from the Kansas City Chiefs as part of the blockbuster deal. Kansas City was placed in back-to-back slots.
That is just the beginning.
The Chiefs have two draft choices in four straight rounds to begin the 2022, thanks to the Hill trade and a third-round compensatory pick. Kansas City has a good chance of getting a top-20 overall spot and keeping either No. 29 or 30.
The New Orleans is one of the most intriguing teams.
The need for a quarterback was obvious, but the Saints were not in prime QB territory. Having a pair of first-round selections does not change the perception, but simply holding the 16th pick does.
It came at the expense of a first and second round pick in the next two years, so the Saints are focused on winning now. It's foolish to expect a major trade up, but inching a bit higher for the right immediate-impact player is still a possibility.
It is fair to question what New Orleans has done, since the roster is not viewed as a real contender.
The Saints are going for it. They may not be finished yet.
Take advantage of the draft when rebuilding.
It is not solely about selecting the right prospects. The value of a draft pick is always higher than a replacement player.
Any pick is like a lottery ticket. The Houston Texans are not in a good position to win much in the future. They can afford to spend a lot of money on rookies in order to find a few core pieces of the future.
Keeping the No. 3 choice to add a piece is sound, but fielding the best offer for the No. 13 choice is likely to be a wise strategy for the Texans.
The New York Giants have a couple of top 10 picks in the first round.
It is an optimal situation for the G-Men with the fifth and seventh picks. Maybe the Falcons or Seahawks want to take over the reins of the team. It is possible that a different team is eyeing a spot ahead of Atlanta or Seattle. There are many trade-down scenarios.
The Giants have an additional slot in the third and fifth rounds. As a mid-level NFC squad, they have the ability to prioritize future flexibility.
The Giants can trade down in any of the opening three rounds, still have valuable picks this year and boost their draft position next April.
If Daniel Jones doesn't make serious improvements in 2022, the Giants may need the 2023 draft ammo anyway.
