LA Clippers star Paul George has entered health and safety protocols after testing positive for carbon dioxide and will miss Friday night's game against the New Orleans Pelicans, according to president of basketball operations Lawrence Frank.
This is a big blow to the Clippers, who will be without their star guard in the elimination game against the Pelicans. The winner will face the top-seeded Phoenix Suns in the first round.
Frank said that George's test results came back positive on Friday.
Frank said that the group has dealt with challenges all year. We have had guys in and out of the lineup, but this group has always responded. A group that is very resilient. We have a great deal of faith in our team and our coach, Ty Lue.
Frank said the team is following health and safety protocols when it comes to health and safety, when asked if other Clippers had to test or if George would be out for a period of time.
This is a challenge but it has just been a series of challenges and may be fitting that this is a situation where all those reps and experiences that the group has had, they have been in these moments many many times before this year.
George missed a lot of games this season. He was out for three months with an elbow injury. The Clippers have won six of their last seven games with George in the lineup.
He averaged 24.3 points, 6.9 rebounds and 5.7 assists. He had 34 points, seven rebound and five assists in the team's loss to Minnesota in the play-in game for the seventh spot on Tuesday.
The Clippers will once again be without their stars. Leonard hasn't played a single minute this season as he rehabilitates his torn knee. Frank said there is no timetable for Leonard's return.
