Shin Tokusatsu and Shin Ultraman will be the spiritual sequel to their series. Our latest look at the movie shows it will be worth the wait.
Tsuburaya has released a new trailer for Shin Ultraman, giving us some teases of Toku action and some more human drama, as well as an alien twist.
The big action stuff looks gorgeous, like Ultraman's specium ray just carving through land, or the Giant of Light transforming and exploding through a building as he grows in size. It seems Shin Ultraman's interest will go beyond his life long Ultraman fan, and a key influence on his work on Neon Genesis Evangelion.
Ultraman's main focus has always been on monsters getting sliced in, but given the young audience, it has rarely ever taken the focus away from that. We could be in for a treat if Shin Ultraman can bring both that and Shin Godzilla's more political edge.
Shin Ultraman will be released in Japanese theaters on May 13. Tsuburaya's plans for the world of Ultraman, hopefully those details aren't too far off, as there is no word about an international release just yet.
