The Russia-Ukraine war entered its eighth week as Russia confirmed that its flagship vessel in the Black Sea sank, with Ukrainians claiming their anti-ship missile is to blame.

Moscow's defense ministry confirmed on Thursday that the Moskva, Russia's leading battleship, sank while being towed to port during a storm. The vessel sank because of the choppy seas, according to the Russian state news agency.

Moscow initially said a fire set off some of its weapons and that a bomb exploded on board. The crew of around 500 sailors were evacuated from the burning ship. The ministry said the fire is under investigation. The governor of Odesa claimed that the damage was caused by a Ukrainian missile strike.

CIA boss warns about nuclear weapons

William Burns, the director of the CIA, warned on Thursday that Russia's military setbacks in the war against Ukraine could lead to Russian President Vladimir Putin using low-yield, or tactical, nuclear weapons. The threat posed by a potential resort by President Putin and the Russian leadership is something that none of us can take lightly.

The CIA has been watching the Kremlin very closely, but Burns said the US had not seen any signs that Putin was about to use those weapons. Russia has had nuclear forces on high alert.

Kremlin promises more strikes against Kyiv

Russia's defense ministry promised on Friday to launch more strikes against the capital of Ukraine. The factory in Kyiv that produced the Neptune missiles was targeted on Thursday.

Russia warned the U.S. that there would be consequences if it continued to send military assistance to Ukraine. President Biden gave the go-ahead for $800 million in military assistance. Helicopters, drones, and medical equipment will be included in the shipment.

Zelensky urges European countries to give up Russian oil

European countries should stop buying Russian oil because of the money it gives to the Putin regime. Zelensky criticized Hungary and Germany for preventing an oil embargo. It is an issue of survival.
