Gilmore told CBS Sports that he has agreed to a contract with the Indianapolis Colts.
It is a two-year deal worth $23 million with 14 million guaranteed.
Gilmore was honored as the NFL's Defensive Player of the Year after leading the league in both intercepts and pass breakups. The fact that he was the subject of trade rumors was a warning sign.
Gilmore was a Pro Bowler again in 2020 but only appeared in 11 games because of a knee injury and then a torn quad.
He was upset with how the Pats handled his rehabilitation. He told Joseph Person that he thought the organization was doing more workouts than rehab, and that they were working out like someone who was 100 percent healthy.
Gilmore made an immediate impact when he was finally on the field. In his first two appearances, he had an intercept.

He played in eight games and made 16 tackles, two intercepts and two pass breakups.
Gilmore was one of the better corners on the market this year despite the setbacks he encountered.
The PFF outlook read that Gilmore was the premier corner in the league while matching up against the best receiver in New England's man-coverage system.
It is difficult to judge Gilmore based on his time with the team. Carolina went on a seven-game losing streak.
Now that he is on the wrong end of the aging curve, a return to his dominant stretch with the Pats might be too much to ask. He has only played a full season three times.
Gilmore will be an effective addition to Indianapolis even if he is only 80 percent of what he was in 2019.
Rock Ya-Sin was traded to the Las Vegas Raiders forYannick Ngakoue, who left as a free agent. The pair started 21 games together.
Signing Brandon Facyson didn't go far enough to address an obvious need at the Colts. This is a franchise that wants to contend for a Super Bowl right now, as evidenced by the trade for Matt Ryan.
