US Senate candidate JD Vance went from being a critic of Donald Trump to being a supporter, a reversal that other Republicans in Ohio apparently cannot let go of.

Dozens of local GOP officials sent a letter to Trump, urging him not to endorse Vance because of his past criticism of the former president. The letter was obtained by Politico and it listed specific comments that Vance made in the past about Trump, including his actual policy proposals.

The letter said that while we were working hard in Ohio to support you and Make America Great Again,JD Vance was actively working against your candidacy and that he referred to your supporters as racists.

The letter said that the signers were against the same candidates in the Senate race. It was signed by members of the Ohio GOP State Central Committee.

With only a few weeks until Election Day, an endorsement that cuts against your support and legacy in Ohio will only serve to confuse or upset voters.

Insider requested comment from Vance, but he did not reply immediately.

He apologized last year for making critical comments about Trump in the past, but he hopes voters don't hold his previous comments against him.

The letter was sent by the Ohio Republicans after it was reported that Trump was going to endorse Vance. The other pro-Trump Republicans who have endorsed him include Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene and Jim Banks.

The Republican primary for the Ohio Senate race will be held on May 3, with a crowded field of candidates.
