During testimony Thursday, a clinical psychologist and the couple's former marriage counselor said there was "mutual abuse" between Heard and Depp.
During the third day of the defamation trial involving the two actors, a video deposition of Anderson was played in a Virginia courtroom, where she told lawyers that Heard and Depp admitted to her during counseling that they were physically abusive toward each other.
The same year they got married, Anderson counseled Heard and Depp. While in counseling, Heard had a "jackhammer" style of talking and cut off Depp because he couldn't keep a similar pace.
The therapist said that Depp had been well controlled for the majority of his life but was triggered by Heard. Both of them were victims of abuse.
Anderson said during the recorded deposition that he saw the behavior of Depp and Heard as mutual abuse.
She said that if Depp was going to leave her, she would start a fight.
The couple's counselor said that Heard started the fights with Depp because she was afraid of abandonment and having him leave.
Anderson thinks that Depp may have initiated it on occasion. I am not sure.
In December 2015, Heard called Anderson to tell her she had a bruise on her face, the therapist said in a deposition, adding that she saw the bruise on Heard's face in photos and in person days later.
Anderson testified that she took that to mean that Heard fought as hard as he did and that he tried to deescalate more than she did.
