Susan Sarandon has been added to the cast of Blue Beetle, according to the Wrap. Sharon Stone was in talks to play the same role as Kord in the movie.
Sarandon played an evil queen in the Disney musical "Enchanted" and chewed up the scenery. We are excited to see her become a baddie in the comic book movie universe. Blue Beetle's cast is packing quite the ensemble with her addition. Xolo Maridue, Harvey Guill, George Lopez, and Raoul Max Trujillo have all been cast in the title role.
Cully Hamner has evolved from a few different characters in the comics into Blue Beetle. This version of the hero will be a young Mexican American who finds an ancient scarab and uses it to his advantage. We're here for characters that get to play in the same place as other DC characters.
Blue Beetle is scheduled to open in theaters on August 18, 2023. A script by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer is being directed by Angel Manuel Soto. It seems like the right move with box office successes like Crazy Rich Asians and the resurgence of the DC comic book film audience with The Batman in re-opened theaters.
