Lawro's predictions

The FA Cup semi-finals will feature Manchester City andLiverpool. We have to have a winner, but who will it be?

Mark Lawrenson, a former Reds defender, said that the two teams were at their best when they drew.

The intensity of that game was ferocious and relentless, and it will be hard for this one to match it. It is still going to be very close because there is so little to choose between them.

Lawro is making predictions for all the games of the season, against a variety of guests.

He takes on the lead singer of Def Leppard, a lifelong fan of the club.

The new album by Def Leppard is called Diamond Star Halos and it will be released in May.

Joe told the radio station that they can't wait.

It would be better if United go up because I will be bouncing on to that stage a little bit taller, but we are just looking forward to getting back out on the road so much.

Def Leppard
Def Leppard have sold more than 100m records since they formed in Sheffield 45 years ago. Their new album is their first since the self-titled Def Leppard topped the charts in 2015, and their new single, Kick, is out now

After being demoted to the Championship last year, Joe has got everything crossed that they can get a play-off place.

Sir Alex Ferguson used to call it "squeaky bum time", he said.

The only advantage we have is that everyone else is in the same position.

We beat Queens Park Rangers at the start of the month and then we are at home to the leaders on the last day of the month.

We beat them at their place in December so anything is possible.

It is very exciting. It is crazy that we are where we are now, considering we were joint-16th at the start of December, but I would rather be where we are.

Snapshot of the top of the Championship: 1st Fulham, 2nd Bournemouth, 3rd Huddersfield, 4th Nottingham Forest, 5th Luton & 6th Sheff Utd
Sheffield United play Reading on Friday and Joe is going for a Blades win. "We don't really let a lot in so I am going to say 1-0," he explained. "We have done nil a lot recently but we don't score a lot either."

While he has a couple of current favorites, he feels that on-loan Wolves player Morgan Gibbs-White is the one who stands out.

I am a huge fan of Chris Basham, who has barely put a foot wrong for us since he joined, whatever division he has played in.

Billy Sharp is also a legend. The guy is a blade and he has done a lot for us down the years.

Morgan is like a breath of fresh air. The guy has talent. Even if we go up, I don't think we could afford him.

SATURDAY

Tottenham v Brighton

Tottenham v Brighton (Premier League, 12:30 BST)

It's hard to see a repeat of the win at Arsenal at home for the Seagulls, because Spurs are flying at the moment.

Spurs are in a strong position in the race for fourth place, as they have won their past four games and the other teams have dropped points.

They could be even further ahead with a couple more wins. That should keep them focused.

Snapshot of 4th to 9th in the Premier League: 4th Tottenham, 5th Arsenal, 6th West Ham, 7th West Ham, 8th Wolves & 9th Leicester
Spurs have taken 12 points out of 12 in their past four games - at least double what any of the teams immediately below them have managed. In the same period, Arsenal have picked up 3/12, West Ham 6/12 and Manchester United 4/12.

Lawro predicted 2-0.

Joe predicts that Spurs are on a real upswing in form. Son Heung-min is a joy to watch because he loves playing and he is one of the greatest players in the league right now. He and Harry Kane are so close that they are almost telepathy. It was 2-0.

Man Utd v Norwich

Is it possible that Norwich are hanging on in there? They did not throw in the towel yet, and showed it with their win over Burnley last weekend.

There is a lot of talk that the next manager of Manchester United will be from the Netherlands, but for the time being, it is not true.

Guus Hiddink showed that the arrangement can work when he had four months with the Blues and they won the FA Cup.

Too many of their players seem to be wondering if it really matters, and that will not change until the new manager arrives.

Lawro predicted 2-0.

This is not the greatest season Manchester United have ever had, but I still don't think they will get much joy. 2-0.

Southampton v Arsenal

Southampton v Arsenal (Premier League, 15:00)

Saints have lost five of their past six games in all competition, while the other team has lost three of their four games.

The pair of them, Thomas Partey and Kieran Tierney, are not with the team. I don't think they are going to win at St Mary's.

Lawro predicted a score of 1-2.

I look forward to watching most of Match of the Day because it seems as if they always concede six goals, or James Ward-Prowse scores another worldy. I think we will see a reaction from there after the recent battering that the club has taken. 0-1

Watford v Brentford

Watford v Brentford (Premier League, 15:00)

Four wins out of their past five games is what they have been doing.

I don't know what will happen with Christian Eriksen, but I would love for the Bees to keep him, he has been the signing of the season and I would love it if they could find a way to keep him.

They have lost four of their past five games. When you look at teams trying to stay up, you point to their home form being crucial, but the Hornets have a poor record at Vicarage Road, and I don't think it will improve on Saturday.

Graphic showing Premier League table based on home form: 15th Aston Villa, 16th Leeds, 17th Burnley, 18th Brighton, 19th Norwich & 20th Watford
Watford beat Aston Villa at home on the opening day of the season but have only won once at Vicarage Road in the league since - a 4-1 win over Manchester United on 20 November

Lawro predicted 1-2.

I apologize to Hornets fan Elton John, but they are done this season. They have got momentum, and they have got Eriksen as well. 0-1

Man City v Liverpool

I think that they are slight favorites.

City had to travel to Spain in the middle of the week, they had a long game against Atleti Madrid in the group stage, and they picked up a couple of injuries, while, on the same night, Klopp could leave out a lot of his big-hitters.

Because of that, I expect City to make some changes from what is arguably their best team but also to be a strong team as they can be.

Lawro predicted 1-2.

Joe predicted that it would be Wow! Seeing these two plays is becoming a permanent fixture, like seeing a concert at the O2 night after night.

You need a wafer-thin piece of paper to separate them because there is nothing between them at the moment. The game on Sunday was the best advert for English football you will ever see.

I always think City are capable of pouncing on any small mistake, but if Diogo Jota plays well, and Mohamed Salah is in top form, then the same thing can be done.

I think it is going to be a long game, although it helps that they had an easier European game on Wednesday night. To win on penalties.

SUNDAY

Newcastle v Leicester

Newcastle v Leicester (Premier League, 14:15 BST)

I was worried about the form of the team last week, but they got the win and improved against Wolves.

Before then, the Magpies had lost three in a row but all three of those defeats were away from home and I would expect them to be better at St James Park.

I am also backing them here, because it is difficult to predict the results of a team that is up and down.

Lawro's prediction was 2-1.

This is a difficult one. We went down on the final day of the 1993-94 season and it was completely ridiculous.

Glenn Hoddle headed the ball for the first time in his life for Mark Stein to score a last-minute winner and we went down.

A point here will get the Magpies closer to being certain of staying up. It was a one-sided affair.

West Ham v Burnley

West Ham v Burnley (Premier League, 14:15)

There is live commentary on Radio 5 Live.

The result atNorwich was worse than the one atEverton was good.

I was expecting the Clarets to kick on after their big win but instead they went to the bottom side and lost. Maxwel missed a chance to equalise at 1-0, but I thought that was not a big deal.

West Ham have a small squad and that could help Sean Dyche, as they have a big game on Thursday night. I don't think the Hammers will lose this one at home.

Lawro predicted a score of 1-2.

Who is wearing claret and blue then? Michail Antonio is a match-winner if he plays well. They seem to be lacking their usual end-of-season spark. Maybe it's too far for them in the top flight. 2-0.

Chelsea v Crystal Palace

Chelsea v Crystal Palace (FA Cup semi-final, 16:30)

Who did they beat?
QF: Middlesbrough (C) AQF: Everton (PL) H
5R: Luton (C) A5R: Stoke (C) H
4R: Plymouth (L1) H4R: Hartlepool (L2) H
3R: Chesterfield (NL) H3R: Millwall (C) A

On Tuesday, they played well against Real Madrid, but still lost in the group stage.

That performance gave us a good idea of the mentality of Thomas Tuchel's side, and it helps them that things seem to be getting better off the pitch.

They have got over the shock of the club being put up for sale and their futures being uncertain, and they will be up for this tie after losing their European crown.

Crystal Palace are very energetic and talented, but their young players will need to deal with the pressure at Wembley as well as deal with the other team. It is a big ask.

As we saw from the chances they created against Real, they look very dangerous when they come forward and I think Tuchel will find a way to keep Palace's front three quiet. I think they will get the job done.

Lawro predicted 2-0.

Joe predicted that the next day, they would lose 4-1 at home to Brentford. I think they will get through this one because it is their last chance of a trophy.

I think Patrick Vieira is going to be a great manager, but Palace are still figuring it out. 2-0.

Lawro and Joe were talking to Chris.

How did Lawro do last time?

Lawro got five correct results from 10 matches last weekend for a total of 80 points.
