The ability to be connected has relieved a lot of stress, but these frequent check-ins are not as good as hugging our kids. We are in the loop for our kids in a different way. Technology has helped take the edge off of those feelings of abandonment. Lead by example is one of the best things I can do for my children. I hope they take to heart the example of selling everything to travel full time and living a life free of consumerism. My children don't want to travel the way we do, but I want them to question what makes them feel good. I want them to know that life is meant to be lived and that they don't have to follow a path that feels like they are stuck. Modeling a well-lived life has helped me get over the feeling that I am abandoning my children, because I am showing them they don't have to follow societal standards in their lives. I don't know if we will travel for the rest of our lives, but I have come to understand that not being close to my children is ok. It is possible to be a good parent and live your best life.
