A bunch of Japanese toddlers, ranging from two-and-a-half to five years old, are sent on errand for their families in Old Enough! We watch as the little humans complete some incredibly complicated tasks for their age, from trekking a full kilometer to the supermarket by themselves to carting home mandarins from the grove and juicing them by hand. They are being followed by a film crew, but that doesn't ruin the magic.
Sometimes it doesn't go smoothly. They get distracted by the dog or forget to purchase the curry along the way. I find myself tearing up every time they fail. I feel the deepest sense of pride I have ever known in my 24 years of life when they conquer the errand. When my tears are building up for the length of the episode, they will cascade over in pure joy.
The show is so easy to understand that almost anyone could give it a try. If you find yourself in a hole 19 episodes deep, surrounded by adorable Japanese babies just trying their darndest, you will be treated to a double length 20th episode.
It has been on the air in Japan for over 30 years, so if you want more, you can check out older episodes on the internet.

This show was designed for my personal interests. Two of my baby nephews are very similar to the tiny tots featured on this show. This show makes me feel like they are right beside me even when they are halfway across the country. Watching Old Enough! makes me feel like I'm in a happy place and I can't help but think that I'm in a bad place in life.

Some of the comments under one of the clips being shared on TikTok, appropriately adoring these little babies. Credit: Screenshot: TikTok
I am not the only one who is gaga over these babies; TikTokkers are starting to share clips of the show and gush in the comments.

We can't just be happy about this baby show. Some viewers pointed out that this could only happen in Japan, a country we here in the West think is so much safer and designed with such better city infrastructure that these wee tots can toddle to the supermarket alone.

They are not wrong. In the US, we favor the kind of infrastructure that most efficiently shuttles our hundreds of thousands of personal cars over the kind that would ensure pedestrian safety, let alone baby pedestrian safety. It's really sad.
Old Enough! is here for at least that, at the very least. The show is not supposed to make us think about how safe Japan is. It is here to spotlight some really stinkin' cute kids walking around in shoes while doing mundane chores and making my day. Please, forget about your work and watch this show, it is now available on a global platform.
I will not tell your boss.
