Saint Lucia reports resurgent tourism sector

March 2022, the highest arrivals month since the restart of the industry from the Covid-19 pandemic, has been revealed by the latest stay-over results from the Saint Lucia Tourism Authority.

The number of stay-over visitors for March was 32,110, up 21% from the forecasted figure, with a total of 80,811 arrivals year to date, marking a strong start to the year.

The Caribbean region is leading the world in the recovery of stopover arrivals according to the latest report from the United Nations World Tourism Organization. The region has a recovery rate of 61.5%. The global rate is 32.9%.

Saint Lucia is one of the best performing destinations in the world so far, and is the only country in the Eastern Caribbean in the top five.

The U.S. is Saint Lucia's largest market with 56.2% of total stay-over arrivals.

When compared to the same period in the past, the Canadian market has shown steady growth. In the first quarter of 2022, 6% of total visitor arrivals to the destination were caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Visitors from the Caribbean and the rest of the world make up 7% of arrivals.

The CEO of the SLTA said that tourism arrivals are increasing. The Saint Lucia Tourism Authority is running a targeted marketing campaign for the summer months. The rejuvenation of Lucian Carnival is one of our priority events this year and we will continue to promote our strong niche offerings such as romance, diving, accommodations and adventure with some exciting plans for the rest of the year.

SLTA continues to engage in productive relationships with trade partners.

The Minister of Tourism Hon. Dr. Ernest Hilaire said that the numbers are encouraging and a testament to the people who work in the industry. Our aim is to ensure that the growth trajectory is sustainable and benefits our people through employment and income generation as well as providing the best experience for our visitors.

Saint Lucia has relaxed its entry requirements. The online registration process has been removed for all, so visitors and returning nationals don't need any pre-entry COVID-19 testing. You can find more information about Saint Lucia at www.stlucia.org.
