Russian Tiger, Kamaz, and Ural military vehicles were traveling in the convoy when the bridge was destroyed, according to the General Staff of the Ukrainian armed forces.

The city of Izyum is strategically important as part of an effort to take control of the eastern region of Ukraine.

Several charred vehicles and smoke billowing from the area can be seen in aerial photos of the purported ambush shared by the Ukrainian military.

According to Foreign Policy, there are multiple military convoys in the Donbas region, including an eight mile convoy north of the city of Izyum.

Russia and Ukraine are reorganizing their forces for a battle in the east of the country.

Russian officials have not responded to the claims of the Ukrainians.
