Users are being given a thumbs down.
In a Wednesday announcement, the company revealed it is testing out a new feature which will allow users to dislike comments they deem irrelevant or inappropriate. TikTok believes that limiting the dislike's visibility will help avoid creating ill-feeling between users.
The company said that community feedback will add to the range of factors that they already use to keep the comment section relevant and a place for genuine engagement.
Some TikTok users posted pictures of the dislike button. The heart icon is to the right of the thumbs-down icon. There are no numbers with the thumb. TikTok said in a statement that the feature wasn't being tested in the U.S.
If the dislike button becomes a staple, it will mark the latest in a string of fundamental changes to TikTok's product design. In February, TikTok increased the maximum length of its videos to 10 minutes from three. TikTok's maximum video length was capped at 15 seconds when the app first launched, so seven more minutes of content might not seem like a huge jump. Competitors like Facebook andInstagram are emphasizing shorter-length videos.
