Thousands of fans filled the streets of downtown for a celebration Wednesday of South Carolina's second women's basketball national championship.
The Gamecocks won the title with a 64-49 victory over the University of Connecticut in Minneapolis.
The staff and players of the Gamecocks were honored by the officials at the Statehouse. There were many vehicles in the parade.
The program once more leads the country in fans per home game, thanks to the help of the FAMS.
Staley, riding in a white convertible Rolls Royce, signed T-shirts and took selfies with people lined up along the route.
She said at the podium how much she loved them.
The city council and Mayor Rickenmann proclaimed April as South Carolina national championship month.
The team will be honored at the White House in a few weeks.
The president of the United States will receive you, Clyburn said.
The White House invited South Carolina after the team won the NCAA tournament. She said she was focused on the upcoming season.
The interim university president called it the "Dawn of a new dynasty".
He told the crowd to be proud of Staley, who has done more for gender equity and for equality in women's athletics than anyone in modern history.
As the fans cheered, he said, "Let's run it back and win another title next season."
