Jerry York, the winningest coach in NCAA hockey history, is retiring.
York told his players and coaches that he was stepping down. He won the NCAA men's hockey championship four times. York was the coach at Bowling Green from 1979-94, where he won his first championship in 1984.
York said in a statement that it was the right time to retire because he had been thinking about it for several weeks.
York is one of only three coaches in NCAA history to win the men's hockey championship at two different schools. He passed Ron Mason in all-time college hockey wins. He finishes his career with 1,123 wins, including a record 41 in the NCAA tournament. He won the NCAA Division I Coach of the Year in 1977. He was a member of the Class of 2020.
It is difficult to put into words how much Jerry York means to Boston College.
The Terriers parted ways with Albie O'Connell in March after four seasons, leaving both Boston College and Boston University without a coach.
