Daniels has turned into a country road.

According to Daniels, he called Neal Brown and informed him of his decision to transfer to West Virginia.

Daniels was the most notable player left in the NCAA transfer portal. Over the past two seasons at Georgia, the quarterback went 7-1 as a starter.

Daniels said in a phone interview that he felt like they had a good fit for the quarterback. I feel like there is a really, really, really good team that I will step into and do my part to contribute to.

Daniels transferred to Georgia from USC. One of the country's most prolific quarterback incubators is a former ESPN 300 recruit.

He chose West Virginia over Missouri and Oregon State after visiting all three. The combination of a strong complement of five returning offensive linemen with 107 career starts, experienced skill players and the impression left by Brown led to Daniels choosing the Mountaineers.

Daniels and Graham Harrell are important factors in his decision to move to Morgantown. At West Virginia, he is the new offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Daniels was the offensive coach at USC in 2019.

Daniels said that the Air Raid system that he learned from at USC will help ease the transition, as the offense is essentially the one he learned back in 2019.

Daniels said it helped knowing Graham came into it and had a good relationship with him. I feel very comfortable with the way that Brown runs the program and the ideas that he has.

Daniels said he felt comfortable in Morgantown.

He said it felt very Athens-ish, which is a quintessential college town.

Daniels is a pure pocket passer who has flashed at times during his college career but has been hampered by injuries. He completed 69.5% of his passes and averaged 9.7 yards per attempt over two seasons at Georgia, which is the highest number of any quarterback with more than 200 attempts.

Daniels was just the second true freshman quarterback in USC history to start an opener, and he started 11 games and threw 14 touchdown passes.

His next three seasons were defined by injuries. He transferred from USC to Georgia after an injury ruined his sophomore season.

He was unable to start early in the 2020 season because of his recovery. He started the final four games of the year, including the Peach Bowl win over Cincinnati, in which he had .

Daniels was a top-ranked NFL draft prospect and a favorite to win the Heisman. He started three games for Georgia in the championship season. Daniels was hampered by an oblique issue and a lat muscle injury. He left the game against Vandy after only a quarter because of a lat injury.

Daniels said that he takes personal accountability for them, even though he doesn't feel snakebit by the injuries.

Daniels said that he needs to prove that he can stay healthy. I missed 35 games in three years.

He will enter a quarterback competition at West Virginia that is defined by a lack of experience. None of the current quarterbacks have started a game.

The two returning scholarship quarterbacks combined for 175 passing yards last season. Nicco Marchiol is a recruit in the Class of 2022. The past two seasons, Jarret Doege started for Western Kentucky.

If Daniels wins the job, he will play behind an offensive line that has all five of the starters returning. The center and tackle are both expected to be among the best in the country at their positions.

There is a chance that an experienced starter at quarterback could make a difference in helping the program turn the corner.

Sam James and Bryce Ford-Wheaton have combined for 2,676 career receiving yards, and Daniels has the most experience and skill set of the group.

Daniels said that they have plenty of skill guys. They have been a top-ranked defense the last five years. It feels like a really good, complete team that I want to be a part of.

Daniels will be eligible to play for WVU as a graduate transfer once he finishes his courses at Georgia. He said that he enjoyed his time in the program and that he won the national title.

Daniels said that Georgia has always loved him and that it has been a good fan base. I am very thankful. I had no issues adjusting. I would not consider it an adjustment. Everyone here has been good and honest.

West Virginia will play Pittsburgh in September of 2022. The game known as the Backyard Brawl could have a Southern California flair, as former USC quarterback Kedon Slovis transferred to Pittsburgh.
