Don't expect to make a lot of money from Meta's virtual world. CNBC has learned that Meta will take a 47.5 percent cut from the sales of digital assets in Horizon Worlds, including 30 percent through the Meta Quest Store. It is possible that creators will need to charge a premium to make sure they have healthy income.

In a statement to The Verge, Meta's Horizon VP said the company's cut was pretty competitive, but that isn't necessarily true for some content. The NFT marketplace OpenSea takes 2.5 percent of transactions, according to CNBC. Meta blasted Apple for its 30 percent slice of in-app purchases and said it would change subscriptions to help creators keep more revenue.

Meta is promising bonuses to virtual developers who are active in their worlds. The rate is not pleasing to digital product makers. It is more difficult than other online services, and may make it difficult for some creators to use it.
