A source told Kevin Weekes that the Boston Bruins will play the Pittsburgh Penguins in the NHL Winter Classic in January.
The Winter Classic will be held at the park for the second time. The Winter Classic was hosted by the Bruins in 2010 and they defeated the Philadelphia Flyer in overtime.

There was a lot of speculation that the Bruins would be the opponent in the event, given that the Bruins were purchased by the Fenway Sports Group.
The Winter Classic was hosted by the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2008 and the Washington Capitals in 2011. This will be the sixth outdoor game in NHL history, tying the Chicago Blackhawks for the most.
The NHL has never used a venue for an outdoor game. The NHL has held many outdoor events since the first Winter Classic, and Bettman said that was going to happen. The NHL will play a Stadium Series game in Raleigh, North Carolina, in 2023 at Carter-Finley Stadium, home of the NC State Wolfpack. The Hurricanes will become the 28th NHL team to play a regular-season outdoor game.
