Manchester United's appointment of Erik ten Hag as their next permanent manager is all but done with only a signing of the contract and an agreement with Ajax remaining to complete the process.

The club has the option to enforce an additional 12 months on the initial three-year deal.

Sky Sports News reported on March 31 that Ten Hag was in pole position to land the job over Mauricio Pochettino, with sources close to the manager and the club revealing compensation of less than 2 million dollars.

PSV is in a tight title race and United want to be sensitive to the Dutch side in the final of the KNVB Cup.

The speculation is proving to be a distraction as it drags on. English journalists have not been given access to press conferences to prevent questions about the manager's future.

Sky Sports News reporter Gary Cotterill spoke with Ajax fans about the rumours their manager Erik ten Hag is set to take over at Manchester United.

Sky Sports News reported last week that the major details of the deal had been agreed in principle.

The make-up of Ten Hag's coaching staff at Old Trafford still needs to be set in concrete, but neither party has concerns over that process.

The club invested in not blocking the advancement of their managers and players, so they were helpful in getting an agreement over the line.

Pundits Clinton Morrison and Courtney Sweetman-Kirk discuss the effect Ajax boss Erik ten Hag may have on Manchester United if he is appointed as the new manager.

Analysis: Man Utd exposure like nothing Ten Hag will have experienced

Sky Sports News has a senior reporter.

It is no surprise that Manchester United is interested in Erik ten Hag, given his status as one of the most progressive coaches in Europe and his long links to their managerial vacancies.

The 52 year-old has had admirers at Old United since the beginning of the year, when his side knocked out Real Madrid in the last 16 of the Champions League, before then stunning Juventus and only being denied a place in the final.

There is an acceptance risk involved as it would be a sizeable leap for him, but Ten Hag is a popular choice to take charge at Old Trafford and represents what is seen as a fresh, exciting future.

The last highly successful coach to move to England's top flight via Inter was Frank de Boer, who lasted just 77 days at Crystal Palace.

The level of competition at the top end of the premier league is unlike anything he has experienced before.

Speaking on The Overlap, Gary Neville, Roy Keane and Jamie Carragher discuss the suitability of Erik Ten Hag as Manchester United manager.

Gary Neville is on Sky Sports.

Ten Hag worked in the same place asPep Guardiola. We know what happened. He has won cups and titles in Holland. His style of play is good. He has more experience than most people think at 52.

It is a massive jump but he has a good coaching background. He is not scarred and that is a good thing. I did a poll the other week and I was absolutely shocked that 240,000 people voted for him to be the next manager of the Spurs.

I knew that he would be the favourite because of the smell on social media. Manchester United fans want a fresh start and a new name. They want something completely different that they haven't had before, and that's probably gone against him.

The making of Erik ten Hag

Adam Bate is on Sky Sports.

Erik ten Hag will go to Manchester United as an outsider tasked with implementing cultural change at one of the world's most famous clubs. He has done that before.

They mocked his accent. He was a Tukker, a man from the east of the country. There were people in Amsterdam who didn't think the great Ajax had anything to teach them. They were wrong.

There is an acceptance that Ten Hag has brought some of the best football that Ajax has seen in years. His methods have been successful, and his manner has won over the doubters.

Those who were at the beginning of the journey for Ten Hag explained it in-depth.
