The first woman to coach in a regular-season game in Major League Baseball history took her spot for the Giants on Tuesday night.

Antoan Richardson was ejected from the game in the third baseman's spot, and the Giants called on 31-year-old Nakken to coach first base.

When she was announced as Richardson's replacement, she received a warm reception from the crowd and a handshake from Eric Hosmer.

When he was skipper of the A's, Nakken had previously coached the position in spring training and during part of a July 2020 exhibition game at Oakland against now-Padres manager Bob Melvin. The teams prepared for the delayed season and she started at first against the A's in San Francisco.

It is the best place to watch a game, that is for sure, and you feel a sense of pride to be out there.

The first woman coach in the big leagues when she was hired by the Giants in January 2020, was the former softball star who had blonde hair.
