The American Society of Travel Advisors (ASTA) is applauding the work of a bipartisan Congressional group that is working to exempt vaccinations from the required COVID-19 testing. One of the biggest obstacles to the full recovery of international travel in the United States is the inbound testing requirement.
While we understand the rationale behind the inbound testing order when it was put in place in January 2021, it continues to present a number of challenges to our constituents who depend on a fully functioning international travel system.
VERTISING
As we enter the third year of the Pandemic and reflect on how far the science has advanced, we respectfully request that travelers who are fully vaccineed be exempt from the order. It would encourage people who aren'tvaccinated to consider doing so.
The bipartisan group is made up of 16 Members of Congress led by Representative Lou Correa (D-CA).
ASTA worked with Rep. Correa's office to get signatures for the letter to Biden.
The CDC's pre-departure testing rule is the single biggest barrier to the full recovery of the international travel system on which so many of their constituency's lives are based.
Making the commonsense change these legislators are calling for is widely supported by stakeholders throughout the industry and would match changes our main outbound markets have recently made, including the U.K., EU, Canada and Australia. More than 215 million Americans have put off international travel because of this rule, and it would help the recovery of the travel agency business.
