If there is one thing that fans of the Atlus series of Persona always want, it is more Persona. Sean Scharfianski, a musician and video game music producer from Arizona, is releasing a five-song album to celebrate the five-year anniversary of the game.
The soundtrack of Shoji Meguro's album, The Mementos Session: Music from Persona 5, features around 19 minutes of 1970s-inspired funk arrangements performed by a variety of session players and vocalists. Some of the most beloved songs from the game are included in the tracklist. Some lesser-known tracks that he felt could use more attention were chosen and the album art was done by an artist. You can listen to the entire album on a variety of streaming services.
Five years after it was released, the definitive version of the game, called Persona 5 Royal, as well as a more action-oriented spinoff, called Persona 5 Strikers, have been released. The music has built up its own reputation among fans, which will be celebrated when it comes to Spotify in early 2021. There has been a lot of physical releases, with the iam8bit releasing multiple Persona 5 soundtrack editions on vinyl and older records fetching hundreds of dollars on the secondhand market.
Any chance to enjoy these excellent songs is a treasure, and The Mementos Session gives it a fresh spin through the creativity and instruments of independent artists who just really love Persona 5.
