It is with a heavy heart that I report this sad news.

The Walking Dead, now two-thirds of the way through its 11th and final season, has done the unthinkable.

The best character in the entire run of the show has been killed off. And to what end?

We have had some crushing deaths before.

Glenn was brutally murdered by Negan and his eyeball popped out of his skull like a cartoon death. After that dumpster fake-out, that was pretty messed up.

Hershel's head was lopped off by the Governor. Who would give Rick advice now? The poor old codger lost a limb.

Noah's flesh was torn from his skin as he tried to escape the revolving door. We knew Noah well, even though we didn't know him very well. What a way to go, dear lord.

Many deaths and terrible losses. They were Carl,Lori, andAndrea. The list goes on and on. AMC used to allow these deaths to occur without announcing it on The Talking Dead and social media months in advance. It was wild!

The death was a shock. It is not the first of Season 11.

Duncan and Agatha and Tony were some of the most beloved characters. All Season 11 losses. It was too much to bear.

The one character we all thought would make it to the end of The Walking Dead was killed off.

The character who kept us tuning in.

You all know who I am talking about, but I will say it anyways. Marco.

They killed Marco.

I am devastated by this loss. I don't know if the final eight episodes of the show will be the same as before with Marco. For the past little bit, Marco has been the glue that held this show together.

He had a couple of lines when he showed up in Season 11, Episode 16. The show's writers did a great job of establishing him as an important character that we all cared about.

The writers and producers of The Walking Dead took a couple episodes to get us to relate to him before he was killed.

Nope, scratch that. They didn't do that either. Marco showed up, out of the blue, and was killed off. The other characters who were very upset about this were the only ones who saw it coming.

We don’t talk about Marco, no no. We don’t talk about Marco!

I apologize, but come on AMC! This is very basic. You want to make a good zombie show. You have already spoiled the fact that the core characters are not going to die, so you need to set up some other deaths that have meaning. If you want to do that, you can either kill off other main characters or create new ones that we can bond with before they get shot or bitten.

Marco should have been introduced at the beginning of the season and given a personality before he was killed off. He should have been killed quietly. Pick one. You can have it both ways.

There are no excuses left for the amateur hour at The Walking Dead. The people making the show should know how to make it work. It takes denial and arrogance to make a season as bad as Season 11. I'm afraid that whatever they're drinking on Fear The Walking Dead has made its way to the mothership.

It was a disaster.

There is a person named Leah.

The show tried and failed to setup as a big, terrifying threat the death of Leah, a character that the show tried and failed to setup as a big, terrifying threat. I think we can all agree that this was handled in the most lackluster way possible and that The Walking Dead without Leah is just fine.

This insistence on setting up new bad guys all the time really shows how unimaginative the show's creators are, wed to just one type of conflict over and over and over again as though no other literary conflicts exist. Le sigh.
