For the second time in his football career, 2015 league Most Valuable Player CamNewton is being scrutinized on social media for making a sexist comment.
The free-agent quarterback complained about women who can't cook and don't know when to cook.
For me, a woman is handling her own but knowing how to cater to a man's needs. I think a lot of times when you get that aesthetic, you are a boss.
No, baby! You cannot cook. You don't know when to be quiet. You don't know how to allow a man to lead.
It was hearing a female reporter ask a question about a receiver running routes that inspired the response from the starting quarterback for the Carolina Panthers.
He said it was funny to hear a female talk about routes.
The league said that the comments were disrespectful to the exceptional female reporters and all journalists. They don't reflect the thinking of the league.
In a two-minute video,Newton apologized without addressing Rodrigue by name.
He said at the time that his word choice was degrading and disrespectful to women. I apologize to anyone who took offense to what I said.
The league did not respond immediately when asked about the quotes.
After being selected with the top pick of the 2011 draft,Newton spent his first nine NFL seasons with the Carolinas. He was cut from the New England team at the end of the 2020 season.
He went 0-5 as the starter for the Carolinas last season, after signing a one-year deal. Carolina general manager Scott Fitterer and coach Matt Rhule recently left the door open for him to return, despite not being signed by another team in free agency. A team spokesman wouldn't comment Tuesday.
At the NFL owners meeting in South Florida last month, Rhule said she loved CamNewton. He is an amazing football player. Everything we do has to be right for the organization.
