It has always relied on other manufacturers to carry the hardware torch for its software. Since Wear OS 3 arrived last year, the calls for an official Google watch have grown.

Since 2016 leakers have been promising an imminentPixel Watch arrival, until we learned that it wasn't going to be made because its prototype didn't work well. The leakers promised that the Pixel Watch would arrive alongside the Pixel 6 but that was only for the company to delay it again.

We may be setting ourselves up for disappointment once again, with the leakers promising a 2022 Pixel Watch release. There are legitimate and consistent evidence that a new watch could arrive soon. Here is what we know so far.

We don't have any official word on the release of a Pixel Watch from the company. Jon Prosser is the leaker of the current rumor that the company will be teasing the Pixel Watch at the event on May 11 but won't actually launch it until October 2022.

Prosser had previously suggested that the watch would launch in October 2021, Q1 2022, and after the I/O along with the Pixel 6a. It's fair to say that the watch won't arrive anytime soon, even if you blame it on the shifting goalposts of the search engine.

Another leak suggested the watch could arrive in the spring of 2022, and that people could test prototypes outside of the company. The spring date was contingent upon a successful test, so the new October release date could mean further problems with the watch, or simply that these leaks were wrong.

The release date of the Pixel Watch is likely to be mid to late October, depending on when the event takes place.

Pixel Watch: Price and models

We have not heard rumors about the price of the watch. We can only speculate at this point, since this is the first time that Google has made its own watch.

The price of the Apple Watch Series 7 would be in the $250 to $400 range, which would mean it would be competitive against the other watches. It is possible that it could go even lower. It is not likely to trend any higher because of the commitment of the company to making the brand affordable.

We have seen no evidence in the leaks of multiple Pixel Watch models. We believe that Apple will sell a single, slim, compact watch, following in the footsteps of the company.

If you want to pay for a premium subscription to Fitbit, you may end up wanting to pay an additional $10/month on top of the watch's cost.

Pixel Watch: Design

If the recent inventory leak is accurate, we will get three color options for the Pixel Watch, black, gray, and gold. We have seen leaked renders of the Pixel Watch that give us a glimpse of the rumored device.

The watch has a very minimalist design, with hardly any bezels to speak of. The right-center of the case looks like it will have a single rotating crown. There will be a black and silver choice for users of the watch case.

In December of last year, leaked marketing materials for the Pixel Watch confirmed the flat, edge-to-edge design of the Moto 360.

A leaked image shows a rotating crown and a hidden button in the top-right of the device. If a second button appears on the bottom-right, the watch could have two buttons.

There is a rumor that the Pixel Watch will use proprietary bands that attach directly to the watch case. It will make it difficult to swap out watch bands. Most of the other top Android watches give you more freedom to change bands, which could be a disadvantage for the Pixel Watch.

We know that the new Wear OS 3 will be used by Google. We can expect the software to be similar to the one on the Pixel and the one on the Watch 4.

Some watch faces will show health data and the Fitbit icon, according to multiple sources. We are curious to see how the Pixel Watch compares to future models like the Sense 2, since the company has promised to use Wear OS on future Fitbit watches.

It's unlikely that they'll support the skin gestures of the Pixel Watch based on a 2020 patent. In theory, the watch would use a mechanical wave that travels through a portion of the user's body between an input region and the device to detect finger gestures.

According to 9to5Google, there is a hidden code in a recent update that indicates that the Pixel Watch will use an Exynos chip instead of the Snapdragon model found in most Wear OS 3-eligible watches. It's possible that Google could use the same 1.5GB of RAM and the next-generation Exynos chip as well as the 5nm Exynos W920.

The leak indicated that the Pixel Watch will have 32 gigabytes of memory and may have eSIM capabilities.

We don't know the watch's size, weight, battery capacity, or any other key information. The leak suggested the watch requires daily charging, which is disappointing but expected.
