The full moon, or Pink Moon, is named for the brilliant- pink flowers that bloom in early spring.

The Pink Moon will be fully illuminated for a short time. It will be full from Friday morning through early Monday, according to NASA.

In other words, this will be a full moon weekend, according to Gordon Johnston, a program executive in the Science Mission Directorate at NASA Headquarters in Washington, D.C.
