Wayne Rooney backed Chris Kirchner's bid to buy the club when the American made an initial offer last year

Wayne Rooney will remain in charge of the club next season according to the prospective new owner.

Rooney had previously stated that he would stay with the side until the end of the season, but recently said that he could leave due to the administrators trying to sell the club.

He was approached for the job at the Rams in January.

Rooney told me he was staying, according to Kirchner.

In a question and answer on social media, the American businessman said that they were going to do this together. Excited to rebuild with him.

Rooney said he can work on his plans now that Chris has been confirmed as the preferred bidder to buy the side.

Rooney said last week that they could work on that.

I love this place and the staff. The players and fans have been great to work with.

  • Hope for Derby after 200 days in administration?

The former England, Manchester United andEverton forward has a year left on his contract as the Rams boss and will take on the job on a permanent basis in January 2021.

Derby are on the verge of being demoted to the third tier of English football for the first time in 26 years, despite last season's Championship survival, because of the club's 21-point deduction.

If results go against them, they could be demoted to League One on Monday.

Rooney was in favor of the American buying the club last year when he initially showed interest.

The sale of Derby County remains ongoing even though the club has been sold to Quantuma.
