Twin brothers exchange lineup cards before Padres-Giants game (0:26)

Twin brothers Tyler and Taylor Rogers exchange lineup cards before their teams face off. There is a time and a place.

2:04 AM ET

Twins Taylor and Tyler Rogers pitched in the same major league game wearing opposing uniforms, each part of the box score for a moment they had envisioned for so long, and Taylor struggled to find the right words through all his emotions.

The San Diego Padres defeated the San Francisco Giants 4-2 on Monday night, with Tyler taking the loss and Taylor earning his third save. They stood in for their managers to exchange the lineup cards, and then posed for a photo with them.

Taylor, acquired by the Padres from the Minnesota Twins on Thursday ahead of opening day, said he didn't know if he had the words. We were able to do the lineup cards because of Bob and Gabe Kapler. That was a special moment, and I got some good pictures from it. I am so blessed. I cannot believe it is happening.

Tyler left the ballpark and the state to welcome his first child, a boy.

Taylor was greeted by the game ball in his locker and joked that next week would feel dull.

The brothers chatted behind the batting cage prior to the game before later exchanging the lineup cards at home plate and posing for a shot with the umpire crew. They did not know that was part of the plan.

If you put them in the same uniform, you can't tell them apart. There are twins and then there are twins, and it is difficult to tell them apart.

Taylor Rogers was summoned to close the game and hang his brother with a loss.

He said that he thought about it as he ran out to the mound. I will not go over to him and say, "Hey, how cool was that?"

It was the first time in MLB history that twin brothers pitched against each other. There was only one game in MLB history in which two twin brothers pitched, but they were on the same team.

Austin Nola hit his first home run of the season for the Padres on Monday, and San Diego was ahead on a groundout by Manny Machado in the seventh.

Jake Cronenworth had an insurance single in the ninth.

Mauricio Dubon struck out swinging in the eighth when the bases were loaded with two outs.

The Giants tied it in the sixth on a two-out wild pitch by Steven Wilson, who was the winning pitcher.

After spending the past four years in Japan, Nick Martinez made his first major league start in over a year for the Texas Rangers. He allowed one run on five hits, struck out six and walked one.

San Diego will determine whether or not to put the left-handed pitcher on the 10-day injured list after he waits until Tuesday to throw.

I want to leave it open, but I am not ready to guess on his status. I am a little skeptical because he had to be scratched yesterday, but I want him to have some input.

Alex Wood allowed two runs on five hits in his first start for San Francisco. The National League Manager of the Year award was presented to Kapler. He was happy for the Rogers brothers.

The Giants skipper said that they could shine the light on a special day for their family.
