Donald Trump is still out and about holding campaign-style rallies, but he isn't bringing in the crowds that he did in the past.

Frank Luntz says GOP leaders are laughing at Donald Trump.

Luntz noted a joke New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu made at the Gridiron Dinner.

Sununu thinks that Trump is so crazy that he could be put in a mental institution. If he were in one, he wouldn't get out.

Luntz said that the event is known for its roast-level jokes of political figures.

I don't know a single Republican who was surprised by what Sununu said. Luntz told The Daily Beast that he said what they were thinking. They are laughing at him. That is what made it significant.

Luntz said that Trump's influence was getting weaker within the party.

Luntz said that Trump isn't the same man he was a year ago. Everyone in Washington thinks he lost the election.

The full report can be found at The Daily Beast.

Luntz's comments came after a series of rallies in which Trump drew smaller-than- expected crowds. Another GOP figure said it was a sign of the former president's diminished status.

Republican strategist Susan Del Percio told MSNBC that there was a "very shrinking base" after Trump spoke in North Carolina.

She said that Republicans are done with Donald Trump and his lies except for a small group.
