Kevin Marks criticized the change in a post on his website, saying that the public record was being altered by hiding the text of deleted messages. The deleted embedded tweets still display their text content.
Eleanor Harding explained at the time that by obscuring deleted messages on the web, they were trying to better respect the wishes of their users. The company received a lot of opposition from open web advocates and developers who believed that it went too far by altering embedded deleted tweets to hide their text.
After considering the feedback we heard, we're rolling back this change for now while we explore different options.
