Donald Trump started to impersonate Russian President Putin as his term wore on and used Ukraine for his own purposes, according to a top advisor on Russia.
In an interview with The New York Times Magazine published on Monday, Hill shared what it was like working for Trump and watching him deal with foreign leaders.
In the course of his presidency, Trump would come more to resemble Putin in political practice and demeanor than any of his recent American predecessors, said Hill.
Hill compared Trump to the other presidents she met, noting how different their experiences were.
She told the outlet that Bush read the materials. She said that Bush asked respectful questions and that she was allowed to give unpopular opinions to him.
Hill said it was a tall order to try to steer policy under Trump.
It was very difficult. It was the case for those of us who were in the administration with the goal of pushing back against the Russians, to make sure that their intervention in 2016 did not happen again. She said that some people lost their sense of self along the way.
Hill told The Times that Trump was using Ukraine as a plaything for his own purposes, particularly when he sent his personal attorney Rudy Giuliani on a domestic political errand.
In the same article, Charles Kupperman, who was once a deputy national security adviser to Trump, recounted how his former boss once launched into an expletive-laden rant about the country.
They are corrupt. Trump said that they tried to screw him and that they were trying to sabotage his election chances.
Following The Times article, Trump released a statement on his account.
Fiona Hill is a Radical Left RINO, but the word is too good. She doesn't know what she's talking about. She would be nothing if she did not have an accent, Trump wrote, using the acronym for the term "Republican In Name Only".
She had no credibility because we won unanimously. I didn't know her at all. He said that she knew nothing about him and he liked it that way.
