The government of Antigua and Barbuda said Monday that American Airlines is extending its daily flights from New York to Antigua and Barbuda into the fall and winter. The service was supposed to end on August 15 of this year, but will resume on November 3, 2022.

The expansion of American's flights between John F. Kennedy International Airport and Antigua was encouraged by strong visitor arrivals. More Caribbean destinations report increased arrivals during the slower summer season after the outbreak.

Antigua will be welcoming seven weekly flights between August 16 and the end of 2022.

The busy summer will be similar to what happened last year, according to the feedback from our airline and hotel partners.

Colin James, CEO of the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority (ABTA), said that they have been consistent in their lobbying efforts.

Antigua and Barbuda hosted a record 202,964 overnight land-based visitors in the year to date, indicating that the country is closing the gap.

Advisory Expansion

Effective immediately, nine travel advisors were named to the Tourism Advisory Committee. The new members are agency owners.

Neale was named the board's chairperson. The group offers a deep understanding of the industry and knowledge of the ever-changing travel marketplace. As we make decisions on activities to enhance the Antigua and Barbuda brand, Fenton expects the nine travel professionals to help steer the ABTA.

Norell Joseph, the U.S. sales and marketing manager, said that the group will work in tandem on strategies to promote the destination and also explore opportunities that benefit both Antigua and Barbuda and travel advisors nationally.

The role travel advisors have in promoting tourism to our islands was reinforced by the Pandemic.
