Italian authorities have seized properties belonging to Russian Formula One driver Nikita Mazepin and his father, worth more than $12 million, on the island of Sardinia.
The villa known as "Rocky Ram" in northern Sardinia was the target of the operation, according to police sources.
The EU placed the father and son on a sanctions list because they were in the circle of Putin.
In March, the F1 driver was kicked off of the US-based Haas Formula One team, and said that Russian athletes were the victims of "cancel culture." No public reason was shared for his dismissal, but it was believed to be related to his father.

On last week's Hard Talk, Mazepin spoke about being included on the EU's sanctions list.
I don't agree with being in sanctions and I intend to fight it, but maybe now is not the right time.
The PR agency for Mazepin did not reply to the request for comment.
The US, UK and EU have imposed sanctions on Russian businessmen close to Putin, and taken their wealth and private jets.
