A new team is at the top of Major League Soccer after the LA derby, in which the LA Galaxy knocked LAFC off their perch.

The Philadelphia Union have won five in a row since their opening day draw against Minnesota United FC. The Union are the new benchmark for success in the league at this early stage of the season after their closest competition fell short on Saturday out west.

With Week 6 in the books, Austin Lindberg and Caitlin Murray look at the results, break down where all 28 teams stand after a wild weekend of action and bring you the latest edition of Power Rankings.

1. Philadelphia Union

The previous ranking was 2.

The next MLS match is April 16 at Toronto FC. The show is on the Disney channel.

The Union won their fifth straight game on Saturday over Columbus. They have not conceded since March 5. No one in the league has a better goals- against record. Three teams have been more prolific in front of the goal. After sending Kacper Przybylko to Chicago and losing other players to Europe, Philly is back at the top of the league.

2. LAFC

1 was the previous ranking.

April 17 is the next MLS match. The show is on the cable network, ESPN.

The Black and Gold will feel bad for losing their top spot after a pair of very tight (and very controversial) offside decisions robbed them of two goals in the 2-1 defeat at the LA Galaxy in Saturday's edition of El Trafico. The expected goals were 2.02 for LAFC and 1.01 for the hosts.

3. Nashville SC

The previous ranking was 4.

The next MLS match is April 16 at San Jose Earthquakes. The time is later.

Nashville has 10 points from six games in 2022, all of which have come on the road, after winning in Kansas City on Saturday night. Imagine what Hany Mukhtar and Co. will do once their schedule becomes home-game heavy.

4. LA Galaxy

The previous ranking was 8.

The next MLS match is April 16 at Chicago Fire. The show is on the Disney channel.

The expected- goals figures suggest that the LAFC game was close, and that they haven't looked particularly convincing in any of their wins, but they will take the points any way they can get them. There should be more points to come for the MLS original club because of the fact that they have two of the league's top goal-scorers in the same player.

play

Chicharito and Sega Coulibaly found the net in the LA Galaxy's win over LAFC.

5. FC Dallas

The previous ranking was 9.

The next MLS match is April 16 at New York Red Bulls. The show is on the Disney channel.

In Dallas' 3-1 win over Colorado on Saturday, Jesus Ferreira scored a pair of goals. He scored a hat trick when he started for FCD. The international is heating up, and Dallas looks dangerous.

6. Colorado Rapids

The previous ranking was 3.

The next MLS match is April 16 at Minnesota United. The show is on the Disney channel.

The Rapids lack of cutting edge let them down in this one, as they nearly doubled up Dallas in possession, but it did double the host's chances created and more than doubled the shots category. The sample size is small, but Colorado has only scored two goals this season, and that is becoming a concern.

7. Columbus Crew

The previous ranking was 5.

The next MLS match is on April 16. The show is on the Disney channel.

The Crew have three goals from four games after being shut out in Philadelphia and scoring seven goals against Western Conference weaklings. Three teams in MLS are not performing as well as Columbus.

8. Real Salt Lake

The previous ranking was 7.

The next MLS match is April 17 at New York City FC. The show is on the Disney channel.

It is not up for debate whether Damir Kreilach was tripped by Nelson in the build-up to the tying goal, but what is up for debate is that RSL have gone off the boil. Salt Lake dropped points to three other teams after their 2-2 draw with Toronto in Utah on Saturday.

play

Toronto earned a point on the road against Real Salt Lake thanks to a late goal from Jayden Nelson.

9. New York Red Bulls

The previous ranking was 6.

The next MLS match is April 16 against FC Dallas. The show is on the Disney channel.

The Red Bulls played their best half of the season first and then their worst after the break. If New York had made more of the first half it spent in control, it wouldn't have mattered.

10. Austin FC

The previous ranking was 15.

The next MLS match is April 16 at D.C. United. The show is on the Disney channel.

Austin has scored more goals in MLS this season than any other team, but its average of a goal a game over its past four is more indicative of what the second-year club will look like.

11. Portland Timbers

The previous ranking was 16.

April 16 is the next MLS match. The show is on the Disney channel.

The Portland Timbers recorded their first road win of the season on Saturday, and it was important because it marked their first of the next two years.

12. Seattle Sounders

The previous ranking was 12.

The next MLS match is on April 16. The time is later.

After beating New York City FC in the first leg of their CCL semifinal, the Sounders had the weekend off.

play

Ercan Kara scored against the Chicago Fire FC.

13. Chicago Fire

The previous ranking was 13

April 16 is the next MLS match. The show is on the Disney channel.

It was always going to be difficult for the Fire to get points on the road without two of their best players, and they were dealt a blow when Brian Gutierrez was sent off for an unnecessary foul. Even if the Fire ends their season-long streak, leaving with a narrow 1-0 loss isn't the worst result.

14. Minnesota United

The previous ranking was 10.

The next MLS match is April 16 against Colorado Rapids. The show is on the Disney channel.

Minnesota was shut out for the first time this season on Sunday in Austin, but five goals from six games has the team dead last in goals scored in MLS. That is not a good sign for a team that has three directos and one U22 player.

15. Atlanta United FC

The previous ranking was 11.

April 16 is the next MLS match. The show is on the Disney channel.

The difference between Charlotte and Atlanta was Brad Guzan's inability to stop Alcivar's Olimpico, and that feels right for a team that has had four games decided by one goal or fewer and whose goal differential is zero after six games played.

16. Houston Dynamo

The previous ranking was 18.

The next MLS match is on April 16. The show is on the Disney channel.

The thrilling 4-3 win over San Jose on Saturday was an example of what the Dynamo are. The Earthquakes have a part to play in this, but seven goals in a game that expected less than three suggests a defense that is less than solid and an attack that is not always effective. We can hope, right?

play

The Houston Dynamo escaped with a 4-3 victory against the Earthquakes.

17. Orlando City

The previous ranking was 19

The next MLS match is April 16 at Columbus Crew. The show is on the Disney channel.

The Lions couldn't take control of the match at home until Brian Gutierrez was sent off for Chicago just before halftime. After going up a man, chances on goal became plentiful, but Ercan Kara and Alexandre Pato were not. It doesn't look like a team that can figure it out in less favorable circumstances can get a win like that.

18. CF Montreal

The previous ranking was 21.

The next MLS match is April 16 against the Whitecaps. The show is on the Disney channel.

A 2-1 comeback win on the road in New Jersey is something to feel good about, but if not for back-to-back goal-line clearances by Kei Kamara and an error on the second goal conceded by the Red Bulls, the result could have been very different. It wasn't convincing from Montreal.

19. Toronto FC

The previous ranking was 20.

The next MLS match is April 16 against Philadelphia Union. The show is on the Disney channel.

Maybe all Bob Bradley needed was some time. Toronto took a valuable road point in its 2-2 draw at Real Salt Lake on Saturday night, after taking one point from its first three matches.

20. New York City FC

The previous ranking was 17

The next MLS match is April 17 against Real Salt Lake. The show is on the Disney channel.

NYCFC lost three places while sitting in between their CCL semifinals and the MLS season, but with just four points from the first six weeks of the season, it feels like the MLS Cup champion are starting to feel like they have lost their way.

play

In the first half, Alcivar found the net from a corner kick.

21. Charlotte FC

The previous ranking was 26.

The next MLS match is April 16 at New England Revolution. The show is on the cable network, ESPN.

After suffering a heartbreaking 96th-minute defeat to rival Atlanta, Charlotte has won three of four (the only loss coming against league leading Philadelphia), the most recent of which was a 1-0 win over the Five Stripes at home in front of 32,000 fans.

22. New England Revolution

The previous ranking was 14.

The next MLS match is April 16 against Charlotte FC. The show is on the Disney channel.

The Revs lost to Inter Miami just when it seemed like their skid was getting worse. Bruce Arena's managerial career in MLS has been blemished by the fact that New England has dropped its fourth straight match. The Revs have run out of excuses.

23. D.C. United

The previous ranking was 23.

The next MLS match is April 16 against Austin FC. The show is on the Disney channel.

D.C. was in a tight spot without a game to play.

24. Sporting Kansas City

The previous ranking was 22.

The next MLS match is April 17 at LAFC. The show is on the cable network, ESPN.

After losing to Nashville at home, the team finished 20% of their season and are currently averaging 0.86 points per game. It would be their lowest mark since 1999.

play

The lead was given by C.J. Sapong in the 68th minute.

25. Inter Miami CF

The previous ranking was 28.

April 16 is the next MLS match. The time is later.

It was the first time this year that Miami found a lead and it was enough to beat the Revs. It was not the most sustainable way to win, but it was a chance for Miami to harness something the team hasn't had yet this year.

26. Vancouver Whitecaps

The previous ranking was 25.

The next MLS match is April at Montreal. The show is on the Disney channel.

The loss to Portland on Saturday was not good for the team. TheCaps outchanced their guests by a better-than 4-to-1 ratio, they outshot them by more than 3 to 1 and they nearly doubled up the Timbers in xG.

27. FC Cincinnati

The previous ranking was 27.

The next MLS match is April 16 at Atlanta United. The show is on the Disney channel.

While it took a weekend off, Cincinnati stays put.

28. San Jose Earthquakes

The previous ranking was 24.

The next MLS match is on April 16. The time is later.

Would the Quakes fans trade their excitement for a win? San Jose is winless through six, the longest stretch without victory to start a season in the club's history, despite frantic efforts to come back in Saturday night's 4-3 loss in Houston.
