Walker Scobell made his feature film debut opposite Ryan Reynolds in The Adam Project. The young actor is branching out into a franchise. Disney+ has cast Scobell as the leading character in the upcoming series, "Percy Jackson and the Olympians."
At 13 years old, Scobell is younger than Lerman, who played Jackson in two previous live-action films. In the first novel by Rick Riordan, Scobell's age is close to that of Percy's. In The Olympians: The Lightning Thief, the character of Percy Jackson was a normal 12-year-old boy who was struggling with his learning disabilities. After Zeus accused him of stealing his master lightning bolt, he learned that he was a god and the son of Poseidon. The gods took it upon themselves to find the real thief in order to prevent a war.
Scobell is currently filming Secret Headquarters, which is about a kid who comes to suspect that his estranged father is a superhero after discovering a hidden hideout in his home. Scobell doesn't have anything else on the horizon beyond Jackson. This will be the beginning of a promising career in Hollywood.
Riordan and his wife, Rebecca, will both be executive producers on the new Disney+ series. The pilot episode is co-written by Rick Riordan. The pilot episode will be directed by James Bobin.
Disney+ hasn't set a date for the film, but it is likely to debut in 2023.
