According to new PC shipping estimates shared this afternoon, Apple's worldwide Mac shipments were up in the first quarter of 2022. Apple shipped an estimated 7 million Macs during the quarter, up from 6.5 million in the year-ago quarter.

The preliminary worldwide PC vendor unit shipment estimates for the first quarter of the year.

Apple has been the number four vendor for some time. The market share increased from 7.7 percent in the first quarter to 9 percent in the second quarter. Several vendors saw a decrease in shipments due to the unstable PC market.

In the first quarter of the year, the number of PCs shipped by Lenovo was 18.3 million, but the number of shipments declined by 12.6 percent. The number two vendor, HP, saw a decline in shipments. The number three vendor was Dell with 13 million PCs shipped and five percent growth.

Apple has a market share trend.

There were 77.5 million PCs shipped in the first quarter of 2022, down from 83.6 million in the first quarter of 2021. The decline in Chromebook sales in the educational market was the reason for the decline in PC shipment numbers.

In the United States, Apple shipped more Macs than any other vendor in the quarter, with a growth of 18.6 percent. The market share for Apple in the U.S. increased from the year-ago quarter.

There are preliminary estimates for the first quarter of the year for the U.S. PC vendor unit shipment.

Dell, HP, and Lenovo shipped more PC units than Apple did in the U.S.

Apple introduced the M1 Pro and M1 Max MacBook Pro models in October of 2016 and the M1 Ultra Mac Studio models in March of this year. Apple is close to converting its entire Mac line to Apple chips, with only the Mac mini and the Mac Pro still using Intel chips.

The shipping estimates were released this morning, and they noted growth for Apple. Apple shipped an estimated 7.2 million Macs, up from 6.9 million in the year-ago quarter.

The numbers can vary over time, and the data shared by the two companies is not reflective of Apple's actual sales. When Apple provided actual Mac sales information, it was possible to confirm estimated data, but Apple no longer breaks out unit sales for the iPhone, iPad, and Mac, making it impossible to determine exact sales numbers.
