ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski (l.) and Adam Schefter

You get what you pay for. The leader in sports spent close to $100 million on two men that took Ricky Bobby's father's words too seriously.

A few weeks ago, it was announced that Adam Schefter and Adrian Wojnarowski had been re-signed by Disney. According to reports, both men signed five-year deals that will make them $9 million per year and $7 million per year, respectively. The race to be first with news has evolved into a problematic competition that lacks any regard.

According to his agent,Dwayne Haskins died this morning when he was hit by a car in South Florida. On May 3, 1992, Haskins would have been 25 years old, and he would have died that day, according to a statement from the man.

A network that partners with the NFL is paying an Insider $45 million to mention that a man that played quarterback in the league is no longer with them. Black bodies and athletes are only seen as objects of entertainment and not as people. Let's not act like this isn't who Schefter is, as he is often the cause of controversy for how terrible he is at his job. The man that was part of Deshaun Watson's defense team, fumbled Dalvin Cook's domestic violence incident, and once called a team president his source, is the same man that was on the defense team.

Ramifications

It is a thing that people like Schefter are immune to, as it feels like there are never any consequences for their actions. We can get an apology here and there, and there could be a suspension that takes place behind the scenes that isn't reported, but that doesn't mean anything when your employer pays you a salary that screams good work.

That mentality was the reason why former Lakers head coach Frank Vogel found out from reporters that he was indeed a former Lakers head coach when he was asked about it during the team's final postgame press conference.

"I haven't been told anything yet," said Vogel.

It had been assumed that Vogel was done after this season, but that is not the case, as you will be fired before your bosses tell you. This is the Lakers we are talking about. The best player in the franchise quit as team president in an impromptu press conference outside of the locker room three years ago.

As messy as the Lakers have been, Woj doesn't work for them. It doesn't mean that he had to share his information with someone else.

There is a difference between breaking news and creating it. The latter was what we saw this weekend, as Adam and Adrian became the news instead of just reporting it. Being second and right is always better than being first and incorrect when it comes to breaking a huge story, and the smart, and good, ones understand that. In the case of the two men, it appears they would rather be wrong and rich.
