Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told CBS that he and his team have to work in the dark to avoid being targets of Russian bombs.

Zelenskyy was interviewed by Scott Pelley on April 6. On Sunday night, the interview was aired.

The command center was full of troops and weapons, according to CBS. Some Ukrainian troops sleep there, with the video showing blacked-out hallways and mattresses on the floor.

According to a translation of Zelenskyy's remarks, he said "It has to be dark in here, you can't switch the lights on because a bomb could just fly in."

Zelenskyy and his staff have been living there for 46 days.

Zelenskyy said "Yeah, I'm fine" when asked if he was safe. I'm pretty calm about it. Our guards are worried because of the possibility of an airstrike. We head downstairs when we get the air-raid signal.

Since the beginning of the war, Ukrainian citizens have been escaping to underground bunkers, some of which were made from subway stations and schools.

Mr. President, what has it been like working under these conditions?

Zelenskyy said that they found a way to work. We do not have another way.

Russia was expected to take control of Ukraine in a few days. Russian forces have been fighting there for more than a month, and Ukrainian forces have regained control of some areas.

Zelenskyy and Ukrainian officials said they expect Russia to try to take the capital again, despite the fact that Russian troops have left.
