The Los Angeles Lakers are looking for a new head coach.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski, the decision on whether or not to keep Vogel as Lakers coach will be shared with him as soon as Monday.

Despite preseason championship hopes, L.A. failed to qualify for the play-in tournament and finished with a dismal 33-49 record.

Before this season, the Lakers added nine-time All-Star Russell Westbrook in a blockbuster trade with the Washington Wizards and surrounding the Anthony Davis-LeBron James-Westbrook trio with a slew of veterans on one-year deals.

The experiment didn't work.

James and Davis played a combined 96 games because of injuries. The Lakers struggled to mesh on the court as losses mounted.

The team had more starting lineups than wins.

The worst season of the 14-year NBA veteran's career was the one he had. His player efficiency rating was the worst ever.

The Lakers' offense was problematic, with the NBA's No. 23 efficiency entering Monday's games. The defense dropped all the way to 21st in efficiency.

There were many points that could be considered the nadir of the season, but a case could be made that the team dropped to 21-22 during a three-game losing streak in January. The Lakers lost by an average of 18.0 points per game and they allowed 128.6 points per game in their loss to the Denver Nuggets.

According to Bill Oram and Sam Amick of The Athletic, the team brass was evaluating his performance game-by-game and that his job was in serious jeopardy. There were no current plans to replace Vogel according to a report from the Los Angeles Times.

As L.A. stumbled through the second half of the season, the fate of Vogel was sealed.

The writing was on the wall for the Lakers, but they have a lot of soul-searching to do after they failed to even make the top 10 of the Western Conference.

The fall from championship glory for the Lakers is remarkable. The first season with L.A. resulted in a 52-19 record and the first NBA championship in 10 years.

The second season was not as successful as the first.

James and Davis missed 63 games due to injuries. The Lakers finished seventh in the Western Conference with a 42-30 record.

The Phoenix Suns took them down in the first round after they defeated the Golden State Warriors in the play-in tournament.

The team's moves in the off-season gave hope. The Lakers are looking for a new leader after they did not work out.

The Indiana Pacers' coach from 2010-11 to 2015-16 and the Orlando Magic's coach from 2016-17 to 2017-18 is now with the Los Angeles Lakers. He led the Pacers to back-to-back Eastern Conference Finals appearances.
