The 2-2 draw with Manchester City on Super Sunday was similar to a boxing fight, as the title protagonists traded blows.

Kevin De Bruyne opened the scoring for the champions in the fifth minute but Diogo Jota equalized eight minutes later.

Gabriel Jesus put City in front before the break, but the Reds fought back with two goals of their own.

The VAR ruled against him in a close call, but substitute Ryoko hit the post late in the game as City lost to their former club for the third time.

The result left City a point clear of the rest of the league with just seven games remaining.

It was like a boxing fight, and City retain their one-point lead at the summit. You shake your head when you get a big knock on your arms.

I liked a lot of things. I thought we were close. The second half start was better than the first. City tried things like balls in behind. These smart runs make sense. When we try to breathe a little bit, another comes. We have to live with and accept the result of the game.

We did well but we could have done better. The intensity of the game is crazy. It was enjoyable, I liked it.

If we did more we would have chances, but we showed our goal because it was a really good football situation. I believed we could win the game. They were more direct than we are today. We wanted to let them run when they were in our possession.

They put us under pressure and we can defend these situations better if we are in a rush. Their counter- attacks are not bad, despite the intense second half. They make good decisions and always pick the right player.

I think it is a good draw. We wanted them to know that my boys are also exceptional.

Seven games to go for both teams and we will not stop chasing. We need to make sure we are ready for the FA Cup semi-finals and then we will see who will have the better finish.

Pep Guardiola
Pep Guardiola says his Manchester City side missed an opportunity to take all three points in their 2-2 draw with Liverpool.

The boss of Manchester likes punching games. It was a great advert for the league. Both teams wanted to win. I know how good and difficult they are and I am happy to watch them.

We performed well. I am so proud of the team. We have seven games left and if we don't win all of them, it will be over.

I said before the game that it doesn't matter if we win or lose. It was a big game but we know what we have to do. Seven games is a lot of games and tough games away.

I don't know what will happen if we win the title, but to be there for the fifth season is so good that I want to win the title.

He makes me a better manager. His teams are aggressive. I try to mimic him. I don't call him but I have a lot of respect for him and he knows. I will try to beat him next Saturday.

The game started at a ferocious pace and didn't relent.

City were the first to hit their stride with Jesus teeing up Sterling for a glorious chance inside the opening minutes - and after Jesus had re-established City's lead, there was a period when they were on the ropes.

Just 47 seconds had elapsed when the two forwards played in each other.

Jamie Carragher said that it took more courage fromLiverpool because Manchester City are such a special team. We have never seen anyone like them in our league. When they play Man City, every other team in the league drops off and hopes for a goal on the counter-attack.

They are good enough to take them on at their own game, and they are the only team that does that.

The quality of the performance was not as good as it could have been, but the mentality to come out in the second half was. They were given the run around in the first half.

I don't think they did anything differently. They did not change. The teams believe in what they do. I wanted to match City in the second half and I was impressed with both sides today.

Shot maps

The first half could've been out of sight for City as they could've been out of the game. The best teams have that ability, character and personality trait.

Well done to the team as they were exceptional in the first half. It was frantic at times. When they brought each other down, they were thinking about the counter- attack.

They are exceptional teams. I admire them most from a defensive point of view. I don't know how they do it. They push high up the pitch.

The nerve to do that against the best in the world is unbelievable. We have seen the best teams push up in the past, but never like these two teams.

Sky Sports has Jamie Carragher.

I think he will be happy. The second half showed how they got back into the game after being down by two points. They will be happy with a point as they were not at the races in the first half.

They deserve credit for how they responded.

Sky Sports has a player named Micah Richards.

They can take confidence from the fact that the city is still ahead. It was a great game of football between two of the best teams I have ever seen, but it would have been a rough road to the end of the season.

I don't think I've seen two matches with such a high quality of football. The players and managers are playing well. Great show.

Looking at the fixture, the run-in is harder for the Reds but they will approach every game one at a time. It is going to be difficult. The levels of fitness, quality and decision making were outstanding. I thought City had a better chance. In the first half, I thought that City had more.

Roy Keane is on Sky Sports.

We are in the same place. Both teams had great desire and fighting spirit. The managers talked before the game about how this wouldn't be a decisive game but they both played well.

It was like a final. I think a draw is a fair result because City had the chance to win it at the end.

What impressed me about these quality players was the desire to win the game right until the end. There is so much quality on both sides that no team was going to dominate for long periods.

In the second half, they showed their character, even though they struggled to get going. They were on the pitch for the start of the season at the half-time break after a go at them.

He wanted them to show their true colors and we saw that before City again. It reminded us of why we love the game. All the players are to be credited.
