The airlines canceled hundreds of flights this weekend due to staffing issues and bad weather in Florida.

As the airlines begin merger talks, there are flight problems. While not abandoning its earlier deal to merge with Frontier, Spirit will entertain the offer from JetBlue.

The two airlines, which were among the carriers with the most canceled flights a week ago as Florida weather wreaked havoc on travel throughout the country, have canceled a combined 257 flights on Sunday. More than half of all U.S. flights are canceled each day.

As of 2:30 p.m., the airline had canceled 18% of its Saturday flights and 13% of its Sunday flights. Time. On Saturday and Sunday, the airline has canceled more flights than it has flights.

Travelers on spring break are scrambling to find new flights the next day or two because weekend flights are packed and they can't get to their destination.

@JetBlue okay so my wife and I had a flight cancellation without reason. We’re being put on a flight to go home 2 days from now instead of tomorrow and it’s costing us an extended hotel stay where our room is already booked. We can’t even get in touch with @JetBlue for 3 hours

The airline's president apologized to employees late Saturday.

We had a lot of news this week, and while that has rightly been the focus of a lot of buzz, I want to assure you that our priority is the operation. We are letting you and our customers down and that is not consistent with what we stand for.

Air Traffic Control delays and poor weather have led tocading problems this month. Planes and flight crews are out of place because of the flight delays. Geraghty said the airline has hired 2,300 workers but is still short.

We are working around the clock to address some of the most difficult operating conditions we have ever faced as a company, according to a memo.

The budget airline is still struggling with flight cancelations as it recovers from bad weather and ATC issues in Florida.

Passengers wait in line to reach the Spirit Airlines customer service desk at Orlando International Airport late Saturday after the budget airline canceled late-night flights to several destinations.

As the airline industry adjusts to post-pandemic travel, a quick fix is not expected.

Geraghty said that the airline plans to cut flights for the rest of April to reduce last-minute cancellation that strand travelers, and it also expects to reduce its summer flight schedule by at least 8% to 10%.

Are flights refunded if cancelledt?

Travelers who have their flights canceled by an airline, regardless of the reason, are entitled to a refund.

There are no U.S. government regulations when it comes to reimbursement for hotel stays, meals, flights on another airline and other charges racked up during a flight cancellation or delay. Airline policies are dictated by legalese called a "Contract of Carriage".

Late Saturday, for example, Spirit was giving out $21 food vouchers at the airport in Florida after it canceled a number of late-night flights. Travelers were being directed to a website to rebook hotels and to seek reimbursement through customer service by the airline.

Know your rights when flights are canceled.

Shoutout to @SpiritAirlines for letting me wait in security for two hours only to show up to my gate to find out my flight was canceled. You can fix this by reimbursing my flight AND the cost of my hotel that was booked & subsequently missed.
