Jake Sullivan, a national security advisor, said on Sunday that the United States is pushing for an "isolated" Russia and an "independent" Ukraine.

During an interview on NBC's Meet the Press, Sullivan told host Chuck Todd that the Biden administration would continue to send aid to the Ukrainian President.

Our policy is that we will do everything we can to help the country succeed. He said that President Zelenskyy and the government of Ukraine will determine what success is.

We need to give them military support and economic sanctions to improve their position at the negotiating table.

Sullivan said that the US envisions a future of Ukraine without Russian interference.

He said that they want to see a free and independent Ukraine, a weakened and isolated Russia, and a stronger, more unified, more determined West.

Russian military forces were unable to capture key areas around the capital city of Kyiv.

Sullivan said on CBS's "Face the Nation" that Russia has brought on a new commander who will oversee the invasion of Ukraine.

We have seen atrocities and war crimes, mass killings, and shocking images from towns like Kramatorsk, Sullivan said.

Ret. Army General Mark Hertling, who served as the Commanding General of the US Army in Europe, said on Sunday that Dvornikov is well-versed in campaigns involving attacks on civilians.

The way he has conducted combat operations in the past has caused him to be perceived as an executioner.
