Liz Cheney said on Sunday that House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy has put his own political ambitions first and failed to defend democracy.

Cheney told Jake Tapper in an interview that McCarthy failed to put his oath to the Constitution ahead of his own political gains.

McCarthy made a statement while leading a bipartisan delegation of lawmakers to Poland in support of Ukraine's democracy.

McCarthy said that the whole world is watching what is happening in Ukraine. As representatives of the United States, we are here to ensure we are doing what is right to support Ukrainians.

Cheney was one of only two Republicans on the House January 6 committee, and he was asked if there was any discrepancy between McCarthy's statement on the conflict aboard and his actions domestically.

The situation in Ukraine is a reminder that democracy is fragile, that democracy must be defended, and that each of us in a position to do so has an obligation to do so, according to Cheney.

McCarthy refused to assist the January 6 committee in their investigation into whether or not former President Donald Trump was responsible for the Capitol riot.

He initially said that Trump was responsible for the attack in the House-floor speech a week after the riot.

The Republican National Committee voted to move ahead with censure efforts after McCarthy declined to support Cheney and Kinzinger. The two were on the January 6 committee and voted in favor of impeaching Trump. The right-wing candidate for the GOP primary against Cheney was endorsed by McCarthy.

At the end of the day, we are all responsible for our actions. If we forget that our oath to our Constitution is an oath to a document, then we are not standing for our Constitution.
