Russia is trying to expand its military capacity by hiring military personnel who have not served in the army since 2012 after the Russian military has been hit with mounting losses, according to British intelligence.

As part of regular intelligence updates, the UK's Ministry of Defence said that Putin's army is working to "generate more fighting power."

The UK intel said that it wants to bolster its numbers by recruiting fighters from the unrecognized Transnistria region.

In an unprecedented admission, Vladimir Putin's spokesman said that the Russian leader has significant losses of troops.

It is believed that Russia is planning a major new offensive in eastern Ukraine and will need to strengthen its ranks after its army was destroyed in the early days of the invasion.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned of a conflict that could lead to the biggest war in centuries.

Zelenskyy told the German newspaper that there would be intense fighting in the coming days.

It could be a big war like the world has not seen in hundreds of years, he said.

According to the Kyiv Independent, the Ukrainian government says that 18,900 Russian soldiers have been killed in the war. The death toll is estimated by NATO to be between 7,000 and 15,000.
