The announcement that WB and Discovery are merging brought with it a legion of fans of the director, who claimed that the key to success for the merged company was to #RestoretheSnyderverse.
The replacement for #ReleasetheSnyderCut was #RestoretheSnyderverse, which was created by Warner Bros. after the release of the Snyder Cut of Justice League. The current state of WB, DC and the original cast makes it less sense for the movement to want more.
I'm pretty sure you agree with me that WB did a terrible job with Justice League after the tragedy of a family member. There seems to be mismanagement behind the scenes with certain DC execs, as well as the treatment of the cast on set by Whedon. I was happy to see the cut released, it was better than the original release.
Come on. Where does this end?
There are a few different things that the devotees are searching for.
There is an idea that there is a non-WB corrupted version of the original Suicide Squad, the worst reviewed DCEU movie. It's hard to believe that reshuffling that film would yield the same results as Justice League and Suicide Squad, but we just got a sequel that redeemed that concept and most of those characters thanks to James Gunn.
There was a time when there were plans for Ben Affleck to make a Batman movie, but that never happened and we got the non-DCEU film instead. Even though the film is good, it's unclear what purpose there would be returning to Ben Affleck's Batman to have parallel live action Batman tracks running. Ben is doing well. He just starred in the critically acclaimed Last Duel and has a bunch of directing projects booked. Even if fans don't like him, he is moving on.
I'm not opposed to Man of Steel 2. I think Man of Steel isunderappreciated and yes, Henry Cavill is interested in playing Superman again. It's true that Cavill is doing well, he's been booked for five seasons of The Witcher and about five more movies.
It's hard to picture this with the cast scattered as they are. Ben and Batman are no longer together. He is busy with a lot of other projects. It seems unlikely that we will ever see Cyborg again after Ray Fisher and WB fell out. After their recent arrest, the solo film they are making is in question. Wonder Woman 3 is in the future, and a sequel to Aquaman is on the way. I don't know how you can reassemble a cast like that.
And then there is the man himself. The man is doing great, like the man. Army of the Dead was a hit for the streaming service, as well as a spinoff called Army of Thieves, which did well. A huge budget for a science fiction project seems to have been given to the man by the streaming service. It allowed him to have a reunion with Ray Fisher.
If you care about the fates of the cast members and the director who were slighted, they are all doing fine. It's fantastic, even. It doesn't seem like the idea that DC needs to be steered by Snyder again for the next decade is plausible. The Batman is working out great because of the splintering of the central DCEU.
I know this won't end. I know that writing this will get me yelled at, but I like him and most of his work in DC. I think it's okay for him and his cast to move on, even if WB doesn't like it, because fans want them back more than they care about returning.
