We spent two nights at the hotel in Milan, Italy, on our trip to Italy and France. The first hotel that the Italian luxury brand opened was this one.
Fashion brands are getting into the hotel business. If you want to reflect the Roman alphabet, you can choose to use the Italian brand of Bulgari.
One of the collaborations the company has launched is for hotels. Five more hotels are expected to be opened by the year 2025. The first property opened in Milan in 2004, as part of a collaboration with Ritz-Carlton, which is owned by Marriott.
The brand doesn't participate in Marriott Bonvoy because it is a collaboration with Marriott. You can earn and redeem points for stays at Bulgari properties, as well as take advantage of Bonvoy elite benefits.
If you book through a travel advisor affiliated with the Marriott STARS program, you can receive perks like complimentary breakfast, room upgrade subject to availability, and more.
Ford is happy to help with this, and can be reached at ford@fordbtravel.com
The rates at Bulgari Milan start at 950 Euro per night, but can vary throughout the year. The pricing of Milan's top hotels is in line with this.
We stayed here on a travel advisor rate. Ford arranged this so that OMAAT readers would still enjoy getting a sense of what the hotel has to offer.
There is a great location for walking around the city. It is in an area with a lot of high-end shopping. It was a 10 minute walk to Duomo di Milano. The area around the hotel is almost like a residential area, as it is close to the botanical gardens.
The entrance of the hotel is small and intimate. You might feel like you are pulling into a luxury condo building instead of a hotel.
You can get to the hotel from Milan Malpensa Airport, Milan Linate Airport, and Milano Centrale. The hotel is close to the Montenapoleone stop of the subway.
We arrived in Milan at 2PM. The bellman helped us get to reception. The uniforms the employees were wearing were more fashionable and less formal than what you would find at a luxury hotel.
The reception area is small, with the front desk to the left and the concierge desk to the right.
We were escorted to our room after a couple of minutes after our check-in process was done. I will talk more about the lounge later on.
We were assigned a room on the fourth floor. The hallways had a fun minimalist design, and there was some cool art by the elevators.
The superior room is the hotel's entry level room. Our superior room had a large terrace. The balcony was a special feature because of the different features of the rooms.
A 35 square meter superior room is marketed as being roughly 375 square feet. Our room may have been larger because of the long hallway. The rest of the room was to the right, while the bathroom was to the left.
The bed in the room was a king size. This isn't your typical hotel room in terms of finishes, as there was a lot of art in the room.
The bed was comfortable to begin with and there was a pillow menu to choose from.
There was a desk with a chair in the far corner of the room.
You don't often see a stationery kit in a hotel room. I don't think I've used anything in that kit for over 15 years, with the exception of a pen and ruler. It was like middle school.
There was a welcome amenity on the table, consisting of some sweet treats with a homemade spread, and two bottles of water. We were brought a sweet treat the next day as well, and it seems that a daily perk at the hotel.
The safe was built into the wall at the far end of the room. I thought the design was thoughtful.
There was a variety of drinks and snacks for purchase at the minibar back toward the entrance.
There was a large closet in the hall between the bathroom and bedroom.
The bathroom had a sink in the main room, a separate room with a toilet and a shower, and a separate area with a bathtub and a walk-in shower.
It was always great to see that the toiletries were from Bulgari. The number of products seemed to be endless.
The most exciting part of the room was the outdoor terrace, which had a beautiful sitting area with an umbrella and two day beds.
The weather in Milan wasn't great, but we still got to enjoy it.
The front office associate asked if she could get us a drink after showing us our room. We were brought some cookies after we asked for them. A nice touch!
There was free and fast wi-fi in the room and daily maid service.
The lounge is located between the reception and the elevators. This is open throughout the day and has a wide range of food and drinks. There is a big focus on fashion with all the art on the walls.
We didn't have anything to eat or drink here, but it was popular with both hotel guests and outsiders.
The hotel's all-day venue is the Bulgari Bar, which is open for breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, drinks, and dinner. There are a lot of seats at the bar and a lot of tables around it. The hotel's signature restaurant is right next to this space.
The bar area has an outdoor terrace, but the weather wasn't cooperating there.
The drink list at The Bulgari Bar can be found here. I ordered the hotel's signature cocktail, which was served with gin, aperol, fresh orange juice, pineapple, and lime juice, while Ford had a negroni.
The snack tray that came with the drinks was very impressive.
We had dinner at the signature restaurant of Bulgari Milan. Several people have told us how good this restaurant is, because the person behind it opened a three star restaurant. It didn't miss a beat.
The restaurant is located next to the bar and has only a dozen tables.
You can find the menu at the restaurant. We were offered a treat from the kitchen, which was an extract of carrot, onion, and celery, with no water, but rather with champagne.
We were offered a lot of bread.
The risotto alla Milanese was outrageously decadent.
The roasted carrot and beetroot salad, parsley sauce, almond, and horseradish was definitely a healthier choice for Ford.
I ordered the steamed sea bass with lettuce, lemon and capers. I loved the presentation and sides of this dish.
Ford said the veal Milanese style was the best he had had in his life.
They still sent some sweets to finish the meal as we were so stuffed.
I have good things to say about the dining experience at the restaurant. Even if you don't stay at the hotel, this restaurant is worth a visit even if you don't get a reservation.
You can find the breakfast menu at Bulgari Milan. Breakfast is served in the dining area. If you book through Marriott STARS, your stay will include breakfast so you can order off the menu.
A fresh juice, a french press coffee, and a cappuccino were all we had to drink.
We had a huge dinner the night before, but I had smoked salmon and a side ofavocado on whole grain bread, while Ford had two eggs with a side ofavocado.
Breakfast can be served via room service at no extra charge if your rate includes it. The hotel serves breakfast all the time. We were able to order breakfast at 4:30AM since we had a 6AM train. We ordered some eggs, a homemade breakfast with nuts and yogurt, and some coffee and water.
The gym and spa complex can be found on the basement level. The spa is open from 9AM until 9PM and the gym is open 24/7.
The gym was small and had a variety of weights. There is a limit of two people at a time, but we had no issues getting our preferred time.
The hotel has an indoor pool, sauna and steam room.
We didn't get any spa treatments, but you can find the menu here and the price list here.
The service at the hotel was perfect.
It was cool to finally stay at a hotel belonging to the famous luxury brand, and it was the flagship hotel of the brand. There is an excellent restaurant, friendly service, and a central location at Bulgari Milan. We had a terrace in an entry-level room.
What was it like staying at a Bulgari property?
